  • Overview

    Digital technologies (e.g., social, mobile, wearable, cloud) are disrupting markets and industries creating new opportunities for new organizations (start-ups) and requiring established organizations to rethink their business. This unit will enable you to identify new digital opportunities and develop transformative digital initiatives. You will learn to analyse and assess digital transformation (e.g., technology laws, information economics, scenario planning). This will support you with identifying opportunities for new digital initiatives. You will also be introduced to the methods, models and tools that you can use when developing and undertaking a new digital initiative (e.g., value propositions, minimum viable product, business models, strategies).
     

    Learning Outcomes
    Upon successful completion of the Digital Transformation unit you will provide evidence that you can: 
    1. analyse how digital technologies are transforming markets and industries and identify opportunities for new digital initiatives. 
    2. plan, develop and evaluate new digital initiatives within the context of new organizations (start-ups) and established organizations. 
    3. explain and apply contemporary methods, models and tools that are helpful in progressing digital initiatives from opportunity to implementation. 4. apply verbal and visual communication skills to gain insights and feedback from users, experts and peers. 
    5. apply written communication skills to elaborate and convey your ideas and results.

     

    Content
    This unit will introduce you to and develop your competences with and knowledge of the methods, models and tools that enable you to develop and undertake a new digital initiative (e.g., vision, job-to-be-done, value propositions, minimum viable product, business models). These different models and tools will take you through an iterative process that takes the digital initiative from insight, via problem and solution, to business model addressing market, business and technology considerations. The focus will be on contemporary models and tools appropriate for an uncertain and dynamic tech environment and developed for and used by practitioners in the digital innovation space (e.g., Value Propositon Canvas, Business Model Canvas). You will learn how to apply and leverage these models and tools at an advanced level making you a valuable and constructive thinker and practitioner.
