  • Overview

    This unit extends general management approaches to the production operations subsystems of service and manufacturing organisations. The unit focuses on the deployment of productive resources in order to maximise the added value of services and products. Issues of quality and efficiency are considered analytically in terms of broader strategies and constraints. It considers the opportunities that new technology brings to operational strategies in both manufacturing and service. Project management principles are considered in relation to resource deployment and continuous improvement.
    Learning Outcomes
    Upon successful completion of this unit, you should be able to:
    1. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of operations management processes and procedures in a range of contexts
    2. Apply techniques for various operations management processes to achieve satisfactory business outcomes
    3. Use operations management knowledge to identify, explain and analyse operational issues and challenges facing organisations in satisfying customer needs
    4. Formulate evidence-based responses to improve operational processes and outcomes of organisations to better meet customer needs, taking account of socially responsible practices
    5. Use professional communication skills to present operations management knowledge and ideas in written form
