OverviewThis unit will explore many of the major musical subcultural movements of the last sixty years through an interdisciplinary approach. To understand how music operates as a form of social, cultural and political communication this unit explores the various contexts in which music circulates and is made meaningful.Learning OutcomesOn completion of this unit you should be able to:1. employ and integrate varying theories, histories and approaches to the study of popular music2. apply information literacy skills to locate and evaluate primary and secondary resources.3. communicate critical ideas using designated media forms and presentation modes.4. construct a substantial critical argument in relation to subcultural theories and contexts.

Credits earned vary according to the policies of the students' home institutions. According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
