  • Overview

    This subject gives a brief introduction to the structure of human language and how it can be described and analysed. Speech sounds, word structure, sentence structure and the organisation of meaning will be the focuses of this subject. We then move on to consider links between language, culture and thought, and to explore the relationship between language and society with a focus on sociolinguistic variation and change.
