OverviewThis subject provides an understanding of the fundamental concepts and importance of finance and suitably prepares students for future finance subjects within a major stream or degree program. This subject covers the nature of the financial environment and the types of financial decision-making required from both a business and individual perspective. The subject further develops the concept of the time value of money, methods of valuing various financial assets such as shares and bonds, and methods of project evaluation. The subject also focuses on the trade-off between risk and return in relation to financial assets to provide an understanding of modern portfolio theory, and the cost of capital for a firm. Students will also be introduced to the Efficient Markets Hypothesis and financial options.

Credits earned vary according to the policies of the students' home institutions. According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
