  • Overview

    The primary aim of this course is to provide an overview of the theories and practices of management and to analyze the nature of managerial work. It provides a comprehensive and integrated introduction to the process of management in both functional and behavioral aspects. In particular, students will also learn about the importance of motivating employees, managing groups and using the best leadership styles to manage employees. The classical viewpoint focused primarily on economic rewards to motivate workers. On the other hand, the behavioural viewpoint emphasized the work environment and social considerations of the worker. This course takes us to the question of worker motivation. We shall examine employee motivation in the Pacific Island countries by using the classical viewpoint and behavioural viewpoint.

    - Demonstrate knowledge of current management challenges in PICs and in the global economy individually and in groups.
    - Discuss different management skills essential to performing management functions.
    - Apply collaborative communication skills to solve leadership and management problems.
    - Examine the diversity of management values to effectively work cross-culturally.
    - Comprehend the importance of professionalism, ethics and responsibility in the Pacific region workplace.
