Weekly Schedule

Phase One: Academics (Weeks 1-2)

The on-site staff organizes weekly meetings and cultural activities that are designed to help students explore their host city and surrounding areas. Language level placement exams are administered by the university on the first day of class, and students complete two weeks of classes at their host university in order to increase their language skills and prepare for their Global Impact project.

Phase Two: Volunteer (Weeks 3-4)

Prior to beginning the service-learning project, students will engage in orientations specific to the tasks, location, and goals of their program. Students will serve on weekdays while continuing to participate in cultural activities when appropriate. They will reside at their homestays except during the weekends when they go on their scheduled group excursions.

Cultural Activities

In addition to classes and/or the service-learning project, the ISA-HS staff organizes meetings to monitor students' progress and discuss the week's itinerary, including cultural activities and excursions.

Up to three mandatory cultural activities are organized during the first two weeks of the program and are designed to help students experience the program cities. During the last one to two weeks of the program, students are engaged in volunteer service projects and will participate in additional cultural activities when available.

Free Time

During each week and on some weekend days students will have free time to explore the program cities on their own. The ISA-HS staff provides students with suggested activities to help learn more about their host city and culture.

Weekend excursions provide students the opportunity to observe and learn about the culture and history of neighboring cities and surrounding areas.
