Intensive Month

Intensive Portuguese Language

Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina

February 2018 (Early Feb, 2018 to Early Mar, 2018)
Catalog Code: IFPM0218

The Intensive Month program is designed for students who want to focus on Portuguese language acquisition. While this program can be completed on its own, the intensive month will prove most valuable for students participating on the Florianópolis semster program hoping to advance a level in the Portuguese language before the semester begins. Students typically progress through one Portuguese language level over the course of one intensive month session. The February session offers beginning, intermediate and advanced level courses held at the Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina in Florianópolis Brazil. Courses will be taught by faculty of the host university.

Students who have completed less than one year of college-level Portuguese typically place into beginning level. Students who have completed one full year of college-level Portuguese typically place into the intermediate-level courses. Students who have completed 4 or more semesters typically place into the advanced level.

All students must take a placement exam. The first half of the exam is an online Portuguese language placement exam administered by the Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina prior to departing for Brazil. After arrival students will take another exam to indicate each student's language proficiency level, and will determine the course in which the student is eligible to enroll.

Please note that the Intensive Month program prices do not include airport pick-up, drop-off, or excursions.

Gap students are also eligible for this program.
