Universities in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar

Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso

The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV), founded in 1928, is a private, autonomous institution funded by State subsidies and tuition fees. The PUCV is accredited by the Chilean National Commission of Accreditation (CNAP) and recognized by the Chilean Ministry of Education (Mineduc) and Superior Education Council (Consejo Superior de Educación). The PUCV is composed of nine academic departments, 53 undergraduate academic programs and a full-time faculty of 320. With an enrollment of over 13,000 students, the university hosts approximately 250 international students each semester. Because the international student body is just under 2%, many ISA students find this to be a good location for complete immersion with Chilean students.

The university's main building is located on the outer edge of Valparaíso, near the town of Viña del Mar, and houses administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories, and computer and audio-visual facilities. The ISA office is conveniently located directly across the street from the main building. Unlike many traditional U.S. campuses that are centralized in one location, The Catholic University's academic facilities are located in both Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. Students have access to tutoring, computers, and sports facilities at the university. Students may also participate in the numerous clubs and organizations available at the university.
