Charles University

Founded in 1348 by Charles IV (Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia), Charles University is recognized and accredited by the Czech Republic Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports. Charles University's goals are to provide high-quality education, to promote research in all disciplines, and to foster the social and cultural development with emphasis on internationalization. More than 42,000 students enroll in classes each year, including an international student population of approximately 4,300.

Students enrolled in the History, Culture & Politics program at Charles University through ISA can take courses in a variety of subjects including:

  • History
  • Cinema
  • Political Science
  • Business
  • Art and Literature

ISA students are required to enroll in a two-week intensive Czech language course at the start of their program and have the option to continue their Czech studies throughout their time abroad.

The University has numerous buildings throughout the city; however, all ISA classes are held in a building on Thakurova Street in Prague 6, an area where many local Czech students live and attend classes. ISA works closely with faculty at Charles University to develop coursework exclusively designed for ISA students. This arrangement ensures subject variety and ISA students will enjoy small class sizes with fellow ISA classmates. Professors hold regular office hours and are generally accessible to students.

Charles University ranks in the upper 1.5 percent of the world's best universities. It is the best university in the Czech Republic and one of best universities in Central and Eastern Europe according to Academic Ranking of World Universities.
