National University of Ireland, Galway

Summer 1 2018 + Service Learning (Mid May, 2018 to Mid Jul, 2018)
Catalog Code: IGWEU1118

Academic Information
The Irish Studies program at National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway) offers students a comprehensive introduction to Irish culture, society, history, literature, film and art through a series of courses and excursions. Non-credit introductory Irish Gaelic language classes are also available to interested students.

Courses are taught by NUI Galway faculty and ISA students take classes with other international students.

Students are required to take 2 classes during the Irish Studies program. Each class is worth 6 ECTS credits. NUI Galway recommends that 6 ECTS credits be considered equivalent to 3 US semester credits (4.5 quarter units). Students are strongly encouraged to consult with their home university regarding the transfer of ECTS credits.

Please note that a $750 housing deposit is required for this program, and is due by the Final Forms and Payment Deadline.

Service-Learning Information
During the first four weeks of the program, students will work 15-30 hours per week at a host organization, increasing language proficiency and gaining valuable international experience. Placements are arranged prior to arrival in the host country and language requirements may vary. Visit the ISA Service-Learning website for more information on placement opportunities.

Service-Learning placements are coordinated by ISA and have no affiliation with the university. Students will develop a Portfolio throughout the program, documenting their projects, hours, and program activities.

Students can earn 1-6 credits based on the number of contact hours accrued at the host organization and successful completion of the Portfolio. Visit the Academic Credit page of the ISA Service-Learning website for more information.
