Student Visa and Embassy Information

Students going to South Africa for more than 3 months must secure a Student Study Permit, which is the South African equivalent to a student visa. ISA will upload the visa application as well as a visa checklist of necessary documents to each student's ISA student portal.

All South African consulates within the U.S. have recently changed their regulations. All students are now required to apply for their study permit in person. Because of this change, ISA can no longer submit visa applications on the student's behalf; however, the ISA South Africa Site Specialist will be happy to assist students with any visa questions or concerns. Detailed instructions on how to apply for the student visa will be provided to students.

After a student submits their visa application and passport at their respective consulate, it will typically take approximately 2-3 weeks to be processed and returned to the student.

If you complete your studies and wish to stay on after your student visa expires, you will have to apply and pay for another visa. If you wish to arrive earlier than the start of you studies, you may do so as long as your arrival date matches the arrival date on your student visa. Once you receive your student visa, please check it carefully to ensure you don't need to apply for alterations or extensions based on your personal plans. ISA does not and cannot control the length of the student visa granted to you.

*If you are not a U.S. Citizen, please contact your local consulate for visa requirements and regulatiions.
All students are ultimately responsible for securing their visa.
