In 1889 Majesty King Chulalongkorn the Great Rama V, founded Mahidol University, making it the oldest educational institution in Thailand. In 1985 Mahidol University International College (MUIC) was added on as one of the many great changes Mahidol University made throughout the years. MUIC provides a high standard of international education and encourages independent and analytical thinking.
Some of the key elements stressed at MUIC are learning in math and science, competence in communication skills, literature, philosophy, and the arts. MUIC's goal is "to prepare students to live and work in a diverse and increasingly globalized world by promoting a spirit of excellence within the faculty, staff, and students in order to produce quality graduates and postgraduates."
Programs in the social sciences, business, and hospitality and tourism management stand alongside offerings in medicine and natural sciences. The College also offers general education courses in foreign languages, and humanities. The classroom encompasses an interactive environment, which encourages discussion and critical explorations of ideas.
