  • September 9, 2023

As of the afternoon hours (local time) on September 9, authorities continue to assess the damage caused by the earthquake. Official reports have confirmed multiple casualties and damage to several villages and cities in the area, with the greatest damage in rural communities near the Atlas mountain range.

ISA Morocco staff and students safely departed Marrakech this morning and have arrived in Meknes. Students are settling into their host city, where no damage has been reported. ISA Morocco staff will continue to support students as they start their semester and counseling services have been made available to students should they need them. All students have checked in with their families back home.

Our Health & Safety team continues to monitor the situation and will update this Worldwide Alert accordingly.

    September 8, 2023

On the late evening of September 8, an earthquake of 6.8 magnitude occurred in Morocco approximately 70 miles southwest of Marrakech. Shaking has been reported throughout the country with no immediate news of any casualties.

ISA resident staff have accounted for all program participants. The group is currently in Marrakech for their orientation before heading to their program city, Meknes. Students have been advised to remain close to their accommodation, check in with their families at home, and avoid all impacted areas until declared safe. Participants are also advised to follow updates from resident staff for any changes in plans to their program itineraries.

ISA will continue to monitor the situation and update this Worldwide Alert accordingly.

  • Paris

    March 22, 2023

ISA has been closely following developments related to demonstrations and multi-sector service strikes across France in response to the government's pension reform. In Paris, intermittent strikes and demonstrations have resulted in disruption to transportation and sanitation services, among others, as well as street closures. Air traffic controllers and railway workers announced plans to strike on March 23, 2023, when demonstrations are also scheduled to take place.

The ISA Paris resident staff have been regularly communicating with students on areas to avoid during planned demonstrations, as students are not permitted to participate in or observe demonstrations. The ISA Paris staff continue to advise students on best practices to get around the city during transportation strikes and where to find the most up to date information from ISA, local authorities, as well as their host institutions. Classes for students attending The American Business School Paris have exceptionally been moved online for March 23rd, while classes at the Institut Catholique de Paris are continuing as normal.

Further strikes and demonstrations can be expected. The ISA Paris staff will continue to advise students, and we will monitor all developments and update this alert accordingly.
