Valparaíso & Viña del Mar Study Abroad
ISA has had programs in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar since 1996, the first Latin American site for ISA programs! Affectionately known as Valpo and Viña, these two sister cities are located halfway down Chile's endless coastline. You will get the best of both worlds as each city offers a unique and different experience. Viña is known for its modernity and beautiful beaches, which attracts tourists from all over the world; while Valpo is a historic port city covered in tasteful graffiti art and singing colorful hills. An UNESCO World Heritage Site, Valpo has charm that is like none other.
What Our Students are Saying
"Through ISA, I was able to experience living my life in another country, specifically Chile, and it was incredible. I grew in my abilities to use the language, and I grew emotionally as I formed fast friendships with other ISA students, my host family, my church family, and other Chilean students. I have no regrets from my time in Chile, and I am so grateful for the opportunity ISA provided me with."

"Studying abroad is an immensely positive experience in your life that you will cherish forever as long as you let it be that for yourself. Living in another country, another culture, another family will make you think about things you had back home and might miss (or don't miss). Regardless, the focus shouldn't be on those things; it should be fixated on the place you occupy, on building a relationship with it, knowing it. Studying abroad offers you a chance to take a step (or several) outside of whatever territory, literally and metaphorically, you were familiar with, to thoroughly enrich your life as well as those of others who will be part of your experience, and to gain a much deeper understanding of that place you came from along the way. A study abroad experience is especially relevant to the polarized social-political climate that often exists in the states. Removing myself from such an environment for a little while has better equipped me to employ empathy and understanding in conversations with people from all backgrounds, and has made me less quick to judge someone for or be offended by something they've said."

"My experience in Chile was incredible. I not only improved my language skills and learned about the culture, but I also learned a lot about myself and developed many valuable skills as well. I never imagined that I would make so many wonderful friendships and relationships with other students and my host family. I hope someday to return to this beautiful country. "

"Studying abroad was one of the best, most terrifying, most exciting and most challenging things I have ever done. It pushed me outside my comfort zone and forced me to really get to know myself - my fears, my strengths, and my desires for the future. Studying abroad is a process of growing pains - some that can only be felt when you are completely pushed outside your comfort zone and immersed in something so unfamiliar. I am so glad I chose to study abroad because it is an experience I will never forget and allowed me to form connections and relationships with people that will last a lifetime. "

"I loved studying abroad in Chile and would happily go again. My experience was definitely heightened by the ISA staff and program; they were welcoming and integral to my abroad experience! ¡Chi-Chi-Chi, Le-Le-Le, Viva Chile!"

"My experience abroad with ISA was one that was truly transformative and will stay with me forever. Although I already knew the Spanish language well and was well-traveled before this semester abroad, my semester in Chile was an experience that really challenged me, brought me many positive experiences, taught me valuable lessons, and changed me for the better. I had an incredible host family that really made the experience for me, and I also participated in a Service-Learning program that let me integrate my studies with my passions and improve my intercultural competence. The ISA on-site staff was very supportive and helpful with any concerns, and I made connections that I hope to keep forever. Thank you, ISA, and thank you to Chile for a wonderful semester! "
