Overview
Students should be able to demonstrate skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening in theEnglish language; they should understand and apply the process of critical analysis and be ableto contextualise, identify, compare, analyse and formulate arguments on a variety of historicaland contemporary English language and literature texts.The foundational course is based on a selection of texts written in English from differenthistorical periods and regions in the world. The course components include introductions to thetechniques of poetry, drama and prose. The general philosophy of the course is to promote anunderstanding of narrative techniques, genres and historical contexts, the development of criticalanalytical skills, and the imparting of appropriate 'life-skills' within the context of literaturewritten in English.
