At the end of the module a student should be able to: Explain the political context in which the South African government functions, including South Africa's transition to democracy; Analyse political party policies and elections in post-apartheid South Africa Understand South Africa's position in a regional and international context; Analyse the environment as a political issue and policy problem of sustainable development generally and in South Africa specifically Compare the central ideas of green political thought, e.g. ecologism and environmental justice Provide a typology of environmental groups and an analysis of their impact Describe governmental and corporate responses to environmental problems, e.g. international climate change agreements to reduce greenhouse gasses.
