    Course Content:

    This module looks at a range of popular musics, analyses the techniques used in writing
    and performing them and provides the opportunity for students to develop their own
    songwriting and performing skills in workshops.

    Topics covered include:
    ? analysis of popular songs;
    ? development of lyric writing skills
    ? development of composing and arranging skills;
    ? workshops on performing and presentation skills;
    ? studio and recording skills development;
    ? development of appropriate notation skills.

    AUTUMN SEMESTER: Analysis of popular songs, development of lyric writing skills,
    development of composing and arranging skills
    SPRING SEMESTER: Further development of composing and arranging skills, workshops
    on performing and presentation skills, studio and recording skills development

    Teaching: Lectures, seminars and practical workshops

    Assessment:
    STUDY OPTION 1:
    ? A Folio of songs (approx 10 mins) presented in the form of recordings and
    leadsheets (50%)
    ? A live performance of the songs from the folio (50%)
    STUDY OPTION 2 OR STUDY OPTION 3: alternative assessment

    Study Option 1 = Whole Year
    Study Option 2 = Autumn
    Study Option 3 = Spring/summer
