Overview
Assessment: essay (2000 words) [50%], seminar (total of 2000 words) [50%]
This module will provide students with an in-depth analysis of a variety of themes linked to Islam and women, in both historical and contemporary contexts. Students will critically analyse the cultural, historical and theological issues which inform the discourse on the status of women within Islam, and, more specifically in some Islamic countries Special emphasis will be given to Muslim approaches to the issues, i.e. those from within the tradition, and how they compare to the outsider?s perceptions.
