Overview
Assessment: coursework (5000 words in total)
This module aims to introduce students to Shakespeare?s work as a poet and a dramatist, and to trace the development of his career from the early tragedy Titus Andronicus (1592) to the romance The Winter?s Tale (1611). The module will examine Shakespeare?s relationship to the theatrical fashions and literary genres of his day, as well as to the work of other playwrights. It will also discuss the plays in relation to their critical history and appropriation, for example Hamlet?s adaptation in contemporary film and popular fiction.
