Prerequisite: DEN4101This module further develops material taught in the first year about fluid mechanics. It introduces more complex concepts including the role of the boundary layer and the transition from laminar to turbulent flow. It will describe the non-Newtonian nature of blood, haemodynamics and pulsatile flows. It will consider flow in the context of the human cardiovascular system, including the structure of the vascular network and blood vessels, the heart anatomy and cardiac cycle, flow through bifurcations and bypass grafts. It will consider the clinical relevance of the endothelial cell and their function.
