Summary module description:
Neuroscience 1 (Affective Neuroscience)Aims:
The aims of the module are that students should further their knowledge of the structure and function of the nervous system, and to bring their knowledge to bear on understanding areas such as neurotransmitters, motivational and reward systems, emotion, and the action of drugs.Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module the student will be able to:
Show knowledge and conceptual understanding of theory and research in selected areas of neuroscience, as assessed by continuous exercises and multiple choice tests.Additional outcomes:
Outline content:
The module will expore the neural bases of reward, emotion and motivation, and applications of research in this field, e.g. drug dependence, mental illness.Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
(a) Lectures on neuroscience.
(b) Online discussion forum following lectures.
(c) Recommended reading in neuroscience.
(d) Continuous exercises tied to course content, including web-based exercises.Summative Assessment Methods:

Penalties for late submission:
The Module Convener will apply the following penalties for work submitted late, in accordance with the University policy.
where the piece of work is submitted up to one calendar week after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for the piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
