State and apply the various principles, underlying concepts and conventions relating to financial accounting2. State and explain the nature and purpose of the major financial statements3. Interpret financial accounting data4. Discuss the nature and financing of various business formsAdditional outcomes:Workshops and assignments are also designed to encourage the development of oral communication and student effectiveness in group situations. Structured activities are designed to develop independent learning skills. IT skills are developed by the use of the Blackboard course management system and the on-line textbook linked VLE.Outline content:Business forms and the need for financial reporting information; the conceptual framework of financial reporting; recording transactions and events using the accounting equation; preparation and presentation of financial statements; the limited company and its financial statements; ; financial statement analysis.Brief description of teaching and learning methods:Lectures will be used for the exposition of the main concepts, principles and techniques associated with the discipline.
