Course Availability & Syllabi

  • The courses listed below are only a sample of what the university offers. Please see the full Reading Module Catalog linked below for additional courses.

Course Selection

  • Requests for sample syllabi can be made to the England Program Manager.

Course Credit

  • Students are required to enroll in 25 ECTS (European Credits Transfer System)credits per term as determined by the University of Reading. The university offers courses worth 5 ECTS and 10 ECTS.
  • Per the University of Reading, 5 ECTS credits are considered equivalent to 3 U.S. semester credits/4.5 U.S. quarter units. Credit transfer policies surrounding ECTS vary across US universities and students are strongly encouraged to consult with their home university regarding the transfer of 5 ECTS and 10 ECTS courses, respectively.
  • Credit transfer is ultimately determined by the student's home university.
  • Classes are lecture style with a seminar (smaller group) following the lecture. Focus is on individual study.
  • Courses may be taught over multiple terms. Awarded credit for partial completion of these courses must be approved by the host university's instructor.
  • According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.

Course Level Recommendations

  • ISA offers course level recommendations for the courses listed in the Reading Module Catalog. Please note that the course level recommendations are based on the Reading module level classifications of a 4, 5, or 6 level, which correspond with the three year bachelor's degree cycle. Courses classified as level 5 and level 6 are considered upper division and recommended for juniors and seniors with 3000- and 4000-level of experience in the subject. These Reading and ISA recommendations are intended to facilitate the determination of course equivalencies by advisors and credential evaluators at participants' U.S. home institutions.

Understanding the Course Code (EX: HS3T25)

  • the first two letters refer to the department the course is being offered through (HS=Humanities)
  • the next number refers to the level (1= Level 4, 2= Level 5, 3= Level 6)
  • the last three numbers/letters refer to the unique number assigned to the class
