Cinema and Literature: Four literary works and their cinematic adaptations

 Discover French literature and cinema through four literary works from the 19th and 20th centuries and their
movie adaptation.

- Queen Margot, Alexandre Dumas père, 1845 / Patrice Chéreau, 1994
- A life, Guy de Maupassant, 1883 / Stéphane Brizé, 2016
- A long engagement Sunday, Sébastien Japrisot, 1991 / Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2004
- The Army of Shadows, Joseph Kessel, 1943 / Jean-Pierre Melville, 1969
Meeting with Anne Klotz (chief editor of Une Vie) on a date to be specified.

2 / Teachers' pedagogical approach
Discover how two types of works, literary and cinematographic, come together and diverge in a
adaptation. Understand the language of each mode of expression and analyze the choices made by the filmmaker on the
form and substance.
Ghislaine Gutierrez will start with 6 sessions around the 19th century. It will develop them in an approach
cinematographic.
Sophie Joëssel will continue with 6 other sessions around the 20th century, in a more literary approach.

notes 1 and 2: classroom tests by each teacher.
note 3: attendance and participation in class activities.
Each note takes into account knowledge and expression in French.
Attendance at the tests is mandatory to obtain the certificate.

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF UNJUSTIFIED ABSENCES: TWO
Beyond that, neither the Certificate of Attendance nor the Certificate of Results can be awarded.
In case of absence or delay, notify the teacher and the secretariat. Present proof when returning to class.
