Overview
DESCRIPTION:
The international system of states. Nature and limitations of international law. Factors affecting prestige and power. Balance of power and balance of fear. War and diplomacy. Cultural relations in historical perspective.RATIONALE:
This course, which examines the nature and framework of political activity at the international level, should prove useful in the contemporary age of globalization.LEARNING OUTCOMES:
As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to:
1. Analyze the international system of states and the conditions under which order is maintained.
2. Examine the basic features of the international system such as Balance of Power, War, International Law, Diplomacy.
3. Outline and evaluate current problems in international relations.
4. Examine various theories of International Relations.In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
- Classes consist of lectures and interactive learning (class discussions on contemporary as well as historical cases).
- Office hours: Students are encouraged to make full use of the office hours of their instructor, where they can discuss the course material.
- Use of a Blackboard site, where instructors can post lecture notes assignment instructions, timely announcements, and additional resources.
- Use of library facilities: Students are encouraged to make use of the library facilities for further study as well as for preparation for the exams.
