Overview
DESCRIPTION:
Technical and production aspects of contemporary theatre, dance and performance practice. Managing a performance. Risk assessment. Production plans and budget. Key terminology of theatre production practice. Examination of case studies in theatre production.RATIONALE:
The course is designed to address questions of stage craft as relevant to performance practitioners whether actors, directors, dancers, choreographer and designers. The course introduces students to concepts in stage management, theatre lighting and sound equipment, essential health and safety in practice, budget and production planning. Students gain production skills that serve as a foundation for more complex work later in their studies.LEARNING OUTCOMES:
As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of the basic principles and terminology of theatre production.
2. Relate various aspects of theatre production concepts and how they come together in practice through examination of cases studies.
3. Apply concepts of health and safety and risk assessment in the planning of projects and productions.
4. Demonstrate ability to work independently and in a group.METHOD OF TEACHING AND LEARNING:
In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
• Lectures, class discussions, video presentations.
• Workshops office hours where students can discuss with instructor their concerns over ongoing projects.
• Use of a Blackboard site where lecture notes, assignment instructions, announcements, and other materials related to the module are posted.
