  • Overview

    DESCRIPTION:
    Design and management of complex supply chain systems. A systems approach to the management of the activities involved in physically moving raw materials, in-process and finished-goods inventories from point of origin to point of use or consumption. Supply chain management and emerging information technologies.

    RATIONALE: 
    Over the past 30 years, supply chain management has evolved to a function that may generate significant cost savings and lead to sustainable competitive advantage through to customer satisfaction and increased sales. Focusing on planning, organizing and controlling the supply chain activities, with special emphasis on strategic decision-making as part of the management process in the global environment, is necessary to help assure efficient operations and competitive advantage.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES: 
    As a result of taking this module, the student should be able to:
    1. Explain the role of supply chain management in a customer-oriented society. (analysis)
    2. Analyze contemporary theories, practices and challenges in supply chain management, and assess their implications on organizational performance. (analysis, evaluation)
    3. Analyze and evaluate inventory management, transportation, purchasing and materials control activities and processes in the strategic business setting. (application, analysis, evaluation)

    METHOD OF TEACHING AND LEARNING:
    In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
    - Classes consist of lectures, discussions, collaborative in-class small projects. Throughout the lectures students develop knowledge and understanding related to the subject content. Discussions and collaborative in-class small projects reinforce students’ cognitive and key transferable skills.
    - Office Hours: Students are encouraged to make full use of the office hours of their instructor in order to consult and discuss issues related to the course's content.
    - Use of blackboard site, where instructors post lecture notes, assignments instructions, timely announcements, as well as additional resources.
