DESCRIPTION:
Theoretical underpinnings of the role of accounting information in cost accumulation, profitability analysis, planning and decision making in business organizations.RATIONALE:
The use of management accounting techniques aims to provide future managers with relevant information to develop knowledge so as to assess the internal business environment as well as to deal with uncertainties and to evaluate alternative decisions and monitor the efficient application of selected strategies.LEARNING OUTCOMES:
As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to:
1. Apply various management accounting concepts and techniques for decision making, planning and control
2. Analyze the effects that alternative decisions have on corporate profitability
3. Demonstrate understanding of the value and limitations of management accounting information in planning, controlling and decision makingMETHOD OF TEACHING AND LEARNING:
In congruence with the teaching and learning strategy of the college, the following tools are used:
- Class lectures.
- In class exercises and real life examples that engage students and enhance employability.
- In-class discussions using business cases that aim to enhance students' analytical and critical skills.
- Use of concept maps to provide an overview of topics discussed at the end of each session.
- Lectures from visiting scholars and professionals
- Office hours: students are encouraged to make full use of the office hours of their instructor.
