Overview
The module examines the main influences on changes in the geography of agricultural production in Ireland and Europe. Particular attention will be given to the role of structural, social, economic and environmental influences as well as the significance of public policies. The second half of the module explores the concepts of rurality and rural development and assesses a range of strategies that have been proposed in Ireland and elsewhere for the maintenance of rural communities and the protection of the rural landscape.
