  • Overview

    Through lectures and seminars, students will be introduced to an area of specialisation in which the lecturer has special expertise.

    Learning Outcomes:
    On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
    -Critically evaluate a range of primary sources to highlight an aspect of US history
    -Compose at least one mid-length written analysis of an approved topic on the course
    -Develop an understanding of a specialised area of US history through the use of guided reading lists
    -Contribute to self and group learning through active participation in class discussions and/or presentations

    Teaching & Learning methods:
    36 contact hours or equivalent (lectures, seminars, field trips, etc.)

    Assessment:
    Continuous Assessment: 100%

    Continuous Assessment detail(s): 7,500 word essay or shorter essay combined with class assignments/tests; Essay to be submitted by Monday prior to commencement of end-of-semester examinations.

    Penalties: No late material accepted unless medical or other compelling reasons are established in writing. The expectation is for full attendance by students. Explanation in writing is required in every case of absence. The project/essay of a candidate who has missed more than 50% of classes will not be eligible for assessment under any circumstances. At the discretion of the lecturer, an individual module may have additional specifications in this regard, which will be indicated in advance of registration.
