Overview
The module will provide an introduction to the study of war, including alternative theories as to the causes of war, traditional and contemporary strategic theories and military doctrine, and an examination of the impact of economic, political, and societal factors on war. In addition to this, a number of wars, campaigns and battles will be examined in detail in order to understand the key factors in the development of the theory and practice of war.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
- Critically analyse the impact of economic, political and societal factors on war
- Identify key aspects of specific wars, campaigns and battles to illustrate developments in the theory and practice of war
- Contribute comprehensively to a problem orientated discussion independently and in group work
