Overview
The course examines the history of Irish traditional music in the 20th and 21st centuries, in particular focusing on the transformations associated with different revivals in this period.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
-describe and evaluate the development and transformation of Irish traditional music in the 20th and 21st centuries.
-analyse a range of Irish traditional music styles and contexts, considering issues such as repertoire, arrangement, performance practice, region, etc.
-distinguish between different styles and ensembles through critical listening.
-discuss and critique recent scholarship in contemporary Irish traditional music.Teaching & Learning methods:
