Overview
The sociological analysis of the contemporary city. Theoretical approaches within urban sociology, empirical examples of transformative processes currently underway in the city, and explore how they work themselves out in everyday urban life. The social organisation of the city and the way city residents experience and use the urban space.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
-Understand the major theories and key concepts used by sociologists to analyse the contemporary city.
-Critically assess sociological evidence and arguments applied to issues such as: the social organisation of the city and the way city residents experience and use urban space
-Evaluate the empirical trends and patterns identified by sociologists exploring transformative processes currently underway in the city and urban life.
-Develop an independent and critical perspective on the sociological analyses of the contemporary city.Teaching & Learning methods:
