Overview
The course starts with an introduction to Information Processing followed by a look at Data Storage and Data Transfer before moving on the architecture of the WWW and an in depth look at some of the protocols involved (including SMTP, POP3 and HTTP). The course also deals with client side web programming in detail, covering topics like XHTML, JavaScript, DHTML, CSS, and XML before examining server side web programming and in particular the Common Gateway Interface and server side programming with Perl. The course also deals with Internet security and the operation of SSL as well as web proxies and server farms.
