Family Business

This module will discuss the processes and issues involved in creating new business opportunities for family owned firms. The module is based on the premise that there is a very identifiable process involved in recognising and evaluating opportunities for family firms, that it is possible for you to think your way through the process in an active way and to develop a defensible feasibility study for a unique business opportunity. Family businesses represent between 75% and 90% of all firms in Western economies. While these organisations face many comparable challenges as nonfamily firms, family firms are very often challenged by the lack of innovation and creativity. This module is designed and developed to cultivate an awareness of the inestimable opportunities that are available for exploitation, within any competitive market environment. This will be achieved by concentrating on the cognitive foundations that are crucial for enhancing innovation and opportunity recognition in. An atmosphere conducive to encouraging interactive creativity will permeate the module and a variety of techniques, tools and exercises will be employed to enhance your idea generating abilities. In doing so the task of envisioning and conceiving novel concepts should become easier.
