Overview
This module examines the Irish Civil Processright from accrual of cause of action through to execution of j
udgment. Topics to be examined include - accrual of cause of action, limitation periods and statutes of
limitation; civil jurisdiction of the courts; initiation of proceedings, including summonses and service;
pre-trial aspects such as injunctions and discovery; aspects of the civil trial including the burden of proof,
and the role of expert witnesses; enforcement and execution of judgment. Attention will also be given to
alternative forms of dispute resolution ("ADR") including mediation and arbitration. There is also a focus on
the history of civil procedure and the influence it has had on the development of modern civil law.
