Overview
This module will provide engineering students with the key Accounting and Finance principles they will require
as professional engineers. Topics will include Financial Accounting conventions, statements of accounting
practice. The concepts of accruals, prepayments and depreciation, accounting for R&D. Analysing financial
statements (ratio analysis) for Key Performance Indicators. The role of Management Accounting for Engineers to
support decision-making. Production costs, the role of technology and cost behaviours. Project costing /
tendering, and Project Accounting. Capital budgeting and project selection criteria. Cashflow, liquidity and
the management of working capital.
