Overview
This module gives a rapid introduction to soils. This is delivered in lectures supported by a series of online materials, with supportive quizzes & multiple-coice assessments. Lectures discuss soils in management, environmental and policy concepts, through physical, chemical & biological processes, to contribution of soils knowledge to key environmental understandings, including brownfield assessment, anthropogenic soils, and the role of soils in global climate processes.
Assessment by essay supports the student in competently sourcing textbook material on an unknown topic, and integrating that knowledge into a broader context of their own choosing.
