  • Overview

This course will survey the work of Samuel Beckett with an emphasis on performance strategies. A broad spectrum of texts will be considered, including examples of Beckett?s drama, prose, poetry, and works for screen and radio. Critical readings will emphasise Beckett?s contribution to drama and to world literature, introducing many of the philosophical and political dimensions articulated or suggested by the works. Students will participate in the creation of performances for the end of term, taking any role they wish (director, dramaturge, designer, or actor) to work on a piece by Beckett in performance.
