Overview
Aims of this course
To provide students with a knowledge of the function of the mammalian nervous system including the Central Nervous System and the Special Senses.Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit students should appreciate the extremely complex nature of the mammalian nervous system. Specifically, the following areas will be covered:- synaptic transmission and neurotransmitters; somatosensory function; spinal reflexes; control of posture and movement; the vestibular system and balance; vision, hearing, olfaction and taste; sleep and the EEG; learning, memory and language; thermoregulation; cerebrospinal fluid, and emotions and the limbic system.Lecture Schedule
This unit is taught in semester one only, and comprises two lectures per week
