Overview
Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This is an elective module intended for undergraduate students with dance as a first area who wish to have more instruction in music theory, ear and notation practice and keyboard skills in order to further develop skills introduced to the student from first semester of first year, increasing his/her employability as a music teacher.Syllabus:
Piano skills including sight-reading, accompaniment technique, basic arrangements, right hand ornamentation; music theory and practice, including dictation (melodic, rhythmic and harmonic) understanding modes and scales and their operations in Western harmony and in Irish contexts; tune composition; basic modulation and chordal accompaniment; music analysis.
