Overview
Course Goals
At the end of the course, students should:
- Know the fundamental principles of diversity, equity and inclusion management
- Be aware of their unconscious bias
- Understand the needs of specific segments of the corporate population
- Understand the functioning of a diversity, equity and inclusion program
- Be able to apply knowledge to specific cases in the diversity, equity and inclusion field
- Be able to use and explain the meaning of factual knowledge (terminology, classifications, methods)
- Be able to identify priorities in managing diversity, equity and inclusion in an organization
With reference to activities oriented towards the development of all-round skills, activities involving the presentation of papers to the class will be proposed, also with a view to enhancing the ability to speak in public.
Course Objectives
- The essential content of the course, in line with the objectives described above, will be structured as follows:
- Introduction to diversity, equity and inclusion: impact of unconscious bias on organizations, brands and customer experiences
- Role of the diversity, equity and inclusion manager in a company: identity, values, skills, job description and interactions with other organizational roles
- Gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and parenting: an intergenerational perspective
- Ethnicity and intercultural communication
- Abilities, health and body positivity
- Inclusive language
- Employer branding, recruitment and selection
- Inclusive culture and inclusive leadership models: training, engagement, ERGs and internal communication
- Inclusive branding, marketing, customer experience and supply chain engagement
- Prevention of harassment and bullying and DEI legal issues
Diversity, equity and inclusion strategies, governance, KPIs and reporting
Teaching Methods
In accordance with the educational objectives of the course, teaching will comprise lectures, dialogic teaching, critical discussion of the topics dealt with, collaborative lessons in working groups, carrying out exercises, analysis and discussion of cases, seminars and workshops.
The course will use the IULM online community to share information and materials.
Assessment
The exam will consist of a written exam composed of 3 parts:
- Part 1: multiple choice questions
- Part 2: open question about the course book content
- Part 3: selection of 5 priorities to manage a diversity, equity and inclusion case.
- The exam will last 60 minutes (75 minutes for SLD students).
There will be an optional oral test.
