Overview
Italian Design survyes the art of industrial production in Italy over the last two centuries focusing on furniture, decorative arts and interior design, fashion, textiles and jewelry, household appliance and automotive design. The role of wider European and American influences in Italian production is examined. Classroom presentations are augmented by special visits to design firms and showrooms in Rome. The goal of the course is to understand the role of artistic genius in industrial production and to develop skills to comprehend the art of everyday objects.
