    The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the modern history of the relations between religion, capitalism, and consumer culture, by enabling a comprehensive engagement with relevant topics such as the religious roots in capitalism, religion and economic justice, Karl Marx’s critique of capitalism, the theological implications of consumerism, Christian anthropology and the market economy, and the philosophy of gift and capitalism. As wide latitude as possible will be given to individuals who wish to pursue specific interests in these inter-disciplinary fields.
