Overview
The remarkable development that tourism has experienced in recent times has transformed our approach to it. Proof of this is the process of consolidation of undergraduate tourism studies. This is because universities, through the generation of knowledge, must provide both society and future professionals with tools to help them understand and manage the sector.
The concept of tourism science, therefore, starts with the need to approach tourism by avoiding simple definitions that do not decipher its complexity. Hence, it is necessary to adopt an interdisciplinary perspective and integrate multiple visions from academia, so that we can generate a global understanding of the tourist phenomenon.
Additionally, with this subject students will acquire the basis for a wholistic vision of tourism. Nowadays, this vision is indispensable for future professionals and companies in a sector that increasingly tends towards increasing responsibility and sustainibility in a changing environment. Likewise, the knowledge acquired in this subject is basic to choose whether to work in academic research or lecturing.
In short, the subject is seen as a tool for discussion and transformation of the most traditional and immovable visions of tourism, aligned with the expertise and research tasks carried out at the Campus CETT UB in the fields of tourism policy and tourism, governance, sustainability and SDG, smart-tourism, digitalization, marketing, ethics, business models, and new economy.
