Overview
Description
The course intends to offer the conceptual and scientific base to describe, explain and predict human behavior. It is a key foundation to acquire competences related to diagnosis, assessment and psychological treatments. The course facilitates the critical application of constructs and paradigms developed in the science of psychology in order to describe, explain and predict human behavior and it also fosters the acquisition of reflexive thinking regarding the behavior of other and oneself.Pre-Requisites
It is recommended to have notions in Statistics, Psychology, and Developmental Psychology.Contents
- Introduction to the domains of knowledge about human nature: dispositional, biological, intrapsychic, experimentalcognitive, sociocultural.
- Current research in personality psychology
- Contributions from Biology, Genetics, Statistics, Sociology and Anthropology to personality studies
- Traits: Taxonomies, measurement and development across the life cycle.
- Genetic, physiological and evolutionary approaches
- Intrapsychic and motivational constructs.
- Cognitions, emotions and the self.
- Sociocultural paradigms.
- Conclusions and future directions.Methodology
Activities that facilitate the contextualization of the topics: Cases will be presented in order to analyze and question reality. Approximately 5% of the course will be devoted to these activities.Activities that foster reflexive thinking: Based on readings, questions, issues and topics will be posed in the lectures. Approximately 5% of the course will be devoted to these activities.
Work on course contents using lectures and materials in the web site, and readings. 40% of the course.
Assignments: The applied part of the learning process will be approached through the applications of constructs and paradigms to a fictional case and the critical analysis of the utility of those constructs. Approximately 50% of the course will be devoted to these activities.

- Final exam: 42%, multiple choice each with 3 response options, 36 to 48 items.In order to pass the course it is compulsory to present the reports and to obtain a minimum grade of 1,8 points in the multiple choice test.
