  • Overview

    OBJECTIVES

    The course will examine a range of international developments topics related to Healthcare and Medicine around the globe. We will exploreo contemporary issues affecting the institutions that provide healthcare and the people who seek health services. We will also look into the how international development takes place and is developed, why is it necessary, and how it is related to healthcare. 

    MEHTODOLOGY

    The course will consist 2 modules twice per week of 2 hours that will cover the topics mentioned in the syllabus. The material will be covered with classroom lectures, discussions, assigned readings, documentary screenings and a presentation of a specific development initiative developed by the stidents. 

    SYLLABUS

    1.  Introduction: What are international developments, official development assistance and issues related to healthcare?
    2. A history of international development from World War II to the present with a look at a decolonization and the cold war. 
    3. A look at different healthcare models and the state of medicine around the globe.
    4. What is the role of international development on international relations and the role of the UN, G-20 countries and other international organizations. 
    5. An in-depth look into how international development happens and how projects come to fruition from the creation of a project to the financing and execution. 
    6. Key issues for international development and their effect on regional health.
    7. COVID-19 and Development on the national and international level.
    8. What does the future hold for international development as a whole and more specificall, healthcare initiatives and possible consequences after the pandemic.
