    OBJECTIVES
    This Course provides an approach to the first modern novel, Don Quixote (The Ingenious
    Gentleman, Don Quijote of La Mancha), to the figure of its author, Miguel de Cervantes, as well as to the
    historical and literary context in which it was created and published: the Golden Age. A further aim is to
    promote the city of Seville as a Cervantine and Quixote-based scenario.
    METHODOLOGY
    Las clases están orientadas de forma prioritaria a la lectura, comprensión y disfrute de la obra de
    Miguel de Cervantes a través de diversas actividades didácticas, recursos audiovisuales y rutas literarias
    de aprendizaje. En clase se leerá una selección de textos que serán facilitados por la profesora. Classes
    will mainly be geared toward the reading, comprehension, and enjoyment of Miguel de Cervantes’ work
    via a range of learning activities, the use of audiovisual resources, together with literary walkabouts.
    During class sessions selected texts will be dealt with under the guidance of the Course lecturer.
    SYLLABUS
    1. The Golden Age: its historical context.
    2. Cervantes: life and works.
    3. Studying and reading Don Quixote. Content, structure, characters.
    3.1 The reading, commentary and analysis of a series of key themes and episodes.
    4. Avellaneda’s Quixote.
    5. How the work projects and transcends itself: Don Quixote in modern culture.
