I. Descripción del curso: 
El objetivo de este curso es dotar al alumno de las capacidades básicas necesarias para ser eficaz en la comunicación, poniendo en práctica los conocimientos lingüísticos adquiridos previamente. El alumno será independiente comunicativamente en situaciones habituales de la vida diaria, podrá hablar básicamente sobre hechos ocurridos en el pasado y proyectar ideas y planes de futuro. Asimismo interactuará con eficacia en contextos sociales sencillos.

Description of the course: the aim of this course is to equip the student with basic skills for effective communication, implementing the linguistic knowledge previously acquired. The student will communicate independently in common everyday life situations, will use basic vocabulary to describe/narrate past events, ideas and future plans. Moreover, students will be able to interact effectively in simple social contexts.

II. Objetivos de aprendizaje:
El estudiante será capaz de
-    Comunicar tareas habituales e intercambiar información sobre asuntos corrientes
-    Pedir y ofrecer servicios habituales. 
-    Hacer descripciones con términos sencillos.
-    Intercambiar opiniones y expresar lo que piensa en un diálogo directo. 
-    Expresar cómo se siente. 
-    Aportar de manera sencilla sugerencias así como mostrar acuerdo y desacuerdo. 

The student will be able to: 
- Communicate common tasks and exchange information on basic issues
- Ask for services.
- Make descriptions with simple terms.
- Exchange opinions and express what she/he thinks in a dialogue.
- Express how she/he feels.
- Provide suggestions in a simple way as well as show agreement and disagreement.

Contenidos comunicativos: presentarse. Deletrear palabras. Los números. 

TEMA 2 – LA HORA E INFORMACIÓN PERSONAL
Contenidos comunicativos: dar y pedir la hora. Reacciones ante la información horario. Preguntar y decir la profesión. 

TEMA 3 – DESCRIPCIONES
Contenidos comunicativos: hablar sobre la familia. Describir físicamente a una persona. Hablar sobre el carácter de una persona.  

TEMA 4 – AL TELÉFONO
Contenidos comunicativos: iniciar una conversación telefónica. 

TEMA 5 – ¿CÓMO ESTÁS?
Contenidos comunicativos: preguntar a alguien cómo se siente y hablar de cómo se siente uno mismo. Expresar dolor. 

TEMA 6 – A COMPRAR
Contenidos comunicativos: ir de compras. Decir qué ropa lleva otra persona. Pedir en una tienda. Preguntar el precio. Hablar de preferencias. 

 TEMA 7 – RESTAURANTE
Contenidos comunicativos: pedir y solicitar un servicio en un restaurante. Hablar de comidas.  

TEMA 8 – MI CASA
Contenidos comunicativos: describir una casa. Decir lo que hay en una habitación. Expresar ubicación de los objetos. Escribir cartas informales.   

TEMA 9 – ¡FELICIDADES!
Contenidos comunicativos: felicitar a alguien. Ofrecer y recibir regalos. Hablar del tiempo atmosférico. 

TEMA 10 – EL CINE
Contenidos comunicativos: recursos para hablar de películas y del cine. Hablar de planes y proyectos. Pedir y dar consejos. 

TEMA 11 - ¿QUEDAMOS? 
Contenidos comunicativos: recursos para concertar una cita. Hacer sugerencias. Aceptar y rechazar invitaciones.

V.I. ¿Cómo concluir satisfactoriamente este curso? 
La asignatura persigue que el alumnado sea capaz de comunicarse en español más allá de únicamente un conocimiento teórico de la lengua. 
Para concluir satisfactoriamente este curso la asistencia es primordial ya que la interacción tanto espontánea (turnos breves) como preparada (turnos largos) son categorías utilizadas en la evaluación. 
Llevar al día la materia es clave también para conseguir una asimilación de los contenidos, algo que no se consigue si únicamente se concentra el tiempo de estudio antes de los controles o examen final. 

How to succeed in this course? 
The course aims that students will be able to communicate in Spanish beyond just a theoretical knowledge of the language. To successfully complete this course, attendance is essential as enables the necessary interaction.  Both spontaneous and prepared interaction are categories used in the evaluation. 
Keeping the tasks of the subject up-to-date is also key to assimilating the contents, something that cannot be achieved if only the study time is concentrated before the quizzes or exam.

VII. Normas del curso: 
Course Policies

VII.I. Asistencia: 
La asistencia a clase es obligatoria, se controla y queda reflejada en la hoja de asistencia del curso. Se requiere una asistencia del 85%* de las actividades presenciales para dar por cumplimentado el programa. No faltar a clase se tendrá considerado en cuenta de manera positiva en el apartado de participación. 
Si se supera el 15% de faltas sin justificar, se restará un punto de la calificación final (escala española del 1 al 10). 
Por encima del 20% de faltas sin justificar, el certificado indicará “no asistencia”.  
Se entienden como faltas justificadas las que conllevan un justificante médico. Solo se admiten los expedidos por un facultativo (no sirven los de los familiares) y en los que figuran las fechas exactas en las que se les exime de acudir a clase. 
En estos cursos no se contempla la posibilidad de acudir como oyentes a las clases, por lo que no se autoriza la presencia de nadie en clase salvo los estudiantes matriculados. 
Puntualidad: los alumnos deben llegar a clase de forma puntual al inicio de la misma y se han de dirigir directamente a clase tras los descansos intermedios que se pudieran producir, disponiendo únicamente del tiempo establecido por el profesor. Llegar tarde a clase 10 minutos tarde (o más) o salir antes de la hora de finalización de la clase se consideran faltas no justificadas y se marcarán como media falta. 

*6 horas 45’ para una asignatura de 45 horas. 

Asistir a clase no es únicamente la presencia en el aula. El profesorado incentivará la participación activa en el curso y se tendrá en cuenta como parte de la evaluación. 

Attendance: Class attendance is mandatory and is taken every class day and it is reflected in the course attendance sheet.
An 85%* attendance rate is required for the successful completion of the course. Perfect attendance will be taken positively into account in the participation section. 
If a student exceeds this limit, 1 point will be taken off of the final grade (Spanish grade). Reaching a 20% of unexcused absences means that the transcript for this subject will show “not attended course”. 
Excused absences: Medical Certificates that will be considered only if issued by a physician (not notes from the family explaining the student’s absence). The certificates must include the exact dates for which a student should be excused for having missed classes. Courses cannot be audited, so attendance is possible only for students enrolled in a specific class. 
Punctuality: Students are expected to arrive on time to class and to return directly to class after class breaks. Arriving 10 minutes late (or more) and/or early class departures are considered unexcused absences and will be taken into account as half an absence. 

*6 hours and 45’ for a 45 contact hour subject. 

Attending class is not only the presence in the classroom. The teacher will encourage active participation in the course and it will be taken into account as part of the evaluation.  

VII.II. Comportamiento en clase: 
Se valorará positivamente que los estudiantes participen activamente en las actividades del aula, que mantengan una actitud académica y respetuosa. No se permite comer ni utilizar el ordenador portátil (salvo que el profesor lo autorice expresamente).  

Conduct in class: Students who actively participate in classroom activities and who maintain a professional and respectful attitude will be evaluated positively. Students must not eat or use laptops during the class (unless specifically authorized by the teacher).  

VII.III. Entrega de deberes fuera de plazo. 
Se podrá quitar medio punto del porcentaje relativo a las actividades de aprendizaje si un alumno entrega reiteradamente las tareas para casa sin justificación escrita. 
Los deberes entregados fuera de plazo se corregirán pero no se calificarán. 
Faltar a una clase no exime al alumno de hacer los deberes o de estudiar el material impartido ese día en clase. 

Late work: 
One half point will be taken off (from the learning activities grade) for homework that is submitted late repeatedly. Late assignments will be corrected but will not be graded. 
Missing a class does not release the student from completing the homework assigned or studying the topics covered in class that day. 

VII.IV. Recuperación de exámenes. 
Si un alumno no ha podido hacer el examen debido a una razón justificada (causa mayor, ver V.II.) y aprobada por el profesor y la dirección académica, se podrá recuperar. 

Make-up Exams:
If a student cannot be present for an examination for a valid reason (see V.II.) and approved by the teacher and academic direction, a make-up exam will be given. 

VII.V. Entrega de exámenes. 
Una vez corregidos los exámenes, el profesor podrá ver en clase las respuestas correctas y después los recogerá. Los exámenes se mantienen durante el semestre siguiente al actual y luego se destruyen. 

Exam retention:
After exams are graded, the teacher will review the examination with the class and collect all exams. The exams will be retained for one semester following the current one, and then they will be destroyed. 

VII.VI. Honestidad Académica 
Los estudiantes actuarán con integridad académica según el código de conducta de su universidad, lo que incluye plagiar y copiar en exámenes. 

Academic Honesty
Students are expected to act in accordance with their university standards of conduct concerning plagiarism and academic dishonesty. 

VII.VII. Alumnos con necesidades específicas: 
Los alumnos con necesidades específicas que requieran modificaciones razonables, asistencia/ayuda específica, o adaptaciones para la realización de este curso (ya sea para el seguimiento adecuado de las clases, para la realización de exámenes, etc.) deben ponerse en contacto con Coordinación Académica durante los dos primeros días del curso. 

Special accommodations: 
Students with special needs who require reasonable accommodations, special assistance or specific aid in this course (either for properly making-up classes, taking exams, etc.) should direct their request to Academic Coordination during the first days of the course. 

El profesorado deberá informar de cualquier caso de abuso y/o de violencia de cualquier índole. 

Teaching staff is required to report any disclosures harassment or violence of any kind.
